The end of August 2021 was marked by the presentation of the Lada Granta in a new body, namely:

- Hatchback;

- Sedan.
The 2021 Lada Granta in a new body has been radically changed; innovations have affected both the exterior and the interior. The engineers did a great job, the model acquired an individual style and athletic smartness.
The manufacturer's main emphasis is on the balance of quality, reliability and budget cost. Although, the last factor was hardly successful.
The X-shaped front part of the Lada Granta 2021 was adopted from its “sister” Lada X-Ray. Thanks to 15″ alloy wheels, the vehicle’s ground clearance increased by 15 mm.
For the first time, alloy wheels with spokes and a polished surface were installed. The windshield washer nozzles were moved from the hood to a plastic frill.
On the technical side, there are no fundamental changes; one should not expect a miracle. Prices for models will remain in the same segment, but with slight upward adjustments.

Lada Granta Sedan description and technical specifications
The exterior of the Lada Granta 2021 is not very different from the previous generation, with the exception of the X-shaped front part, borrowed from Vesta, XRAY.
The front bumper will now always be painted in the main body color. In the central part, chrome inserts like a boomerang are installed. Extended air intakes on the sides add sportiness and some athleticism.

Despite the desire of the domestic auto industry to make the car more modern, it turned out pretty badly. And outwardly, the Lada Granta 2018 sedan looks even somewhat more affordable than it actually costs. What's worth noting about the features:
- The optics remain the same. It seems that the manufacturers did not even consider variations with LEDs.
- The body is simple: small in size, few edges and practically no complex surfaces.
- In more expensive modifications, a bumper is installed, which is painted to match the body color.
- The bumper has special recesses for fog lights, but such headlights are installed only in expensive modifications.
- The back also looks very discreet. The optics are large in size. The rear bumper is even smaller than the front. And it is worth noting that with the relatively small size of the wheel arches, it does not look so aesthetically pleasing.
But at the same time, Granta definitely stands out among other cars, because it is strikingly different from the rest.
If we talk about the interior, the salon looks quite decent for its price category. But it cannot be said that it will surpass any foreign car. Among the features are the following:
- Over time, the quality of the plastic used in the finishing may fail - noise may begin.
- The instrument panel is analogue, in the center there is a screen on which basic information is displayed.
- In the center are the air ducts and the standard system unit. The top version has a touch screen. Below is the climate control control unit.
- Between the seats there is a special block for glasses made of hard plastic.
- The chairs are covered with textile material. It cannot be called low-quality, but it has been noted more than once that over time, pellets and abrasions begin to appear on the finish. However, sooner or later this awaits any finishing material, especially if the machine is used quite often.

In the exterior, the head optics and radiator grille have undergone significant changes. Engineers changed the already familiar shape of the hood and front fenders.
Wheels with a size of 15 inches are installed. Turn signal repeaters are integrated into the side-view mirrors.
The rear of the Lada Granta has also undergone changes, in particular the trunk lid, on which a small spoiler was pre-installed. Grant leaders highly appreciated the transfer of the license plate mounting location from the rear bumper to the trunk lid. The result was a certain completeness of style and form.

The interior of the Lada Granta Sedan is in many ways reminiscent of the Kalina, in particular the front console. The backlight was changed from green to white.
The stove heater deflectors received an X-shaped edging in the Vesta style. Digitization is radial, instrument scale with orange edges.
Salon
The front row of seats received new upholstery, lateral support rollers, larger headrests, and noticeable support. Top modifications are additionally equipped with seat height adjustment with a range of up to 4.0 cm.
Starting from 2021, all Lada Granta models will be equipped with the ERA-GLONASS system with an emergency call button on the ceiling.

The power unit and transmission were inherited from the previous generation. For manual transmissions and ATMs, the gear ratio was increased and adjusted to the engine power factor. Thanks to this, the acceleration time was reduced by 0.5 seconds. Main gear ratio: 3.9:1.
For the first time, the robot was equipped with a creeping mode, which is very convenient in city traffic jams. After releasing the brake pedal, the car automatically starts moving at a minimum speed. For those who like to drive on the track, there is a mechanical “Sport” mode switch.
Dimensions Grants Liftback
Budget power unit of 1.6 liters with 87 hp. produces 140 Nm of torque, which is very good for the Lada Granta. The engine works in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission.
The maximum speed is 170 km/h, the first hundred is reached in 11.6 seconds. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 6.8 liters, urban mode consumes more - 9.2 liters, highway 5.3 liters.
The next two models have improved characteristics and are equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission and a five-speed robot. The maximum speed reaches 180 km/h. Fuel consumption: 7.2 / 9.9 / 6.1 liters, respectively.
Price
The starting price of the new Granta Sedan starts from 420,000 rubles. This is the most budget modification “Standard”. For a more powerful power unit and a robotic gearbox, pay an additional 25 - 30 thousand rubles. A classic machine will cost the buyer 580,000 rubles.
In addition to the listed configurations, “Optima” and “Prestige” are available for purchase. Which are pre-installed with air conditioning, heated side mirrors, rain and light sensors, exchange rate stabilization system, ABS, rear parking sensors.
Active and passive safety are represented by one airbag.
The “Classic” package is complemented by an electric power steering system with tilt-adjustable steering column. And also, front windows, central locking, an electronic control unit with an indication of the “ideal” moment for changing gear speeds.
The “Comfort” modification complements all of the above, plus an audio system, heated front row seats, two airbags. In addition, there is a servo drive for exterior mirrors with built-in turn signal indicators.
The Luxury Prestige package boasts a full electric control package: power windows, 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, central locking, heated windshield.
For ease of cargo transportation, the rear row of seats folds in a 60/40 ratio.

Heart failure
Granta has been produced since 2011; the editorial machine rolled off the production line in 2012. Its engine is the simplest - an eight-valve engine with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group. The only bells and whistles are air conditioning and electric front windows. An excellent option for checking the extent of progress over seven years of life. We pitted two brand new Grants against the editorial worker - a sedan with a manual transmission and a liftback with an automatic transmission.
Simultaneously with the restyling, AVTOVAZ switched to “plug-in” 1.6 engines. New pistons will no longer come into contact with the valves in the event of a timing belt break. Welcome to the “non-stick”: the editorial sedan showed us the consequences of a broken timing belt. And the point here is not in saving on maintenance, but in the quality of components.
Reliability? It is unlikely that replacing the pistons had any effect on it.
The traction and power characteristics have not changed. The basic eight-valve engine with 87 horsepower is surprisingly peppy - it’s enough for the city. If the car is not heavily loaded, it will not fail on the highway. For trips with the whole family and with a full trunk, it is better to take the 16-valve version with 106 hp. – all other things being equal, it is only 15,000 rubles more expensive.
Granta found herself in a privileged position relative to Vesta. I'm talking about the updated robotic gearbox version 2.0 with accelerated gear changes, “creeping” and “winter” modes. For Vesta, such a robot is available only with a 1.8 engine, but it is already installed on the 106-horsepower Granta 1.6.
I haven’t driven the robotic Grant yet, but I believe that the gearbox setup is not fundamentally different from West’s, and therefore I won’t dissuade you from this option.
And I drove a car with a classic Jatco four-speed automatic transmission to my heart's content. It is still paired with an intermediate 98-horsepower engine. The Japanese gearbox and the VAZ engine have developed a friendship: delays during switching are minimal, the electronics quickly understand what the driver wants. This is the best power unit from the entire Grant range. But it’s a bit expensive: the surcharge for a robot is 30–40 thousand (depending on the configuration), and for a manual transmission it’s 55–65 thousand. Imported oats are expensive these days!
The updated Granta is noticeably quieter, even taking into account the “crickets” that have multiplied in the editorial machine over the years. Improved sound insulation appeared several years ago (our sedan did not get this) - first on cars in top trim levels, and later on all Grants and Kalinas. But restyling also made its contribution. Now there are felt fender liners in the wheel arches, which reduce the level of noise penetrating into the cabin.

Metallic color

The main news with the change of update is that the name “Kalina”, under which VAZ hatchbacks and B-class station wagons were produced, has sunk into oblivion. Now AVTOVAZ has a single model in this segment - Granta. In response to my direct question whether Kalina has fallen victim to the marketing strategies of the Tolyatti people (Rio and Solaris have noticeably displaced the model’s position in sales reports, and with one name for four bodies - a sedan, a liftback, a hatchback and a station wagon - there is a chance), Executive Vice President for sales and marketing of AVTOVAZ Jan Ptacek turned the tables on his colleague, design director Steve Mattin. He, they say, drew such a successful image of the new family that it no longer made sense to divide it by name.
Ptachek provided us with some more information. If the market grew by 17% in the first 7 months of this year, then Lada grew by 20% (199 thousand cars sold). In the most popular segment B (37% of the country's total car market), Grant and Kalin accounted for 18%. It is clear that in Tolyatti they paid especially close attention to updating their bestseller.
