The recent restyling of the Lada Granta did not rid the most affordable car on the Russian market of its inherent shortcomings, but it has become more convenient in small things. It’s just a pity that not all improvements to the Lada Grant 2019 turned out to be a plus.

At the dawn of release, Grants could not boast of sound insulation even if they were rated satisfactory. Later, the plant introduced an expanded Shumka package for expensive trim levels, and now it is included in all versions. And rightly so: the budget Lada, even in the luxury version, is by no means quiet - where else can you save?
In the arches of the restyled Granta there are pile fender liners, which contribute to reducing the noise level in the cabin.
For its price, Granta has acceptable sound insulation. Nothing outstanding, but compared to similar cars from the first releases - heaven and earth! So, if you have a pre-restyling car, this may be one of the reasons for replacement.
Reliability of manual transmission "Lada Granta"
The new manual transmission of the Lada Granta has become not only optimized, but also more reliable, and acceleration has also improved due to improvements. The engineers managed to rid it of unpleasant vibrations that were previously clearly felt on the gear shift knob and transmitted to the car body. At the same time, there are fewer backlashes, and gear changes and driving become more comfortable. But it is also worth noting that after modifications, the cost of a car in this configuration increased by an average of 5 thousand rubles.
However, a short period of time after the launch of the updated version of the car, many owners of the Granta cable manual transmission began to complain about the presence of noise (howling, humming). After receiving a large number of complaints, AvtoVAZ decided to modify its design again.

During the research, the car plant engineers were able to determine that noise in the gearbox occurs due to improper processing of the teeth of the gears and the main pair. After this, the design of the manual transmission on the Grant was modified again, and the processing technology of the metal parts used was also changed.
An updated, quieter manual transmission began production in July 2014; the noise level, due to further improvements, decreased by an average of 25 percent. At the same time, some car owners noted that this malfunction in the box could be eliminated by changing the oil in it to a higher quality one.

Until recently, we believed that it would be naive to count on something “designer” in the most affordable segment. Steve Mattin buried this stereotype with his Vesta and Xray. Grant was painted before his arrival at AVTOVAZ, and now the eminent artist has improved the appearance of the car as best he can.
VAZ cars have also reached the budget Grants. It suits her!
It turned out great. Nowadays, not everyone can distinguish a full-face Granta from a Vesta, which is one and a half times more expensive.
The main thing is that the “boomerangs” do not lose their presentation by the third or fourth winter. So far, Togliatti residents, alas, have problems with the quality of chrome elements.
The style of the stern was radically revised only in the sedan. He needed this more than other body types. Moving the niche for the license plate from the bumper to the trunk lid freed the rear from visual heaviness. There was no need to even change the shape of the lights: the Granta sedan became more harmonious.

Lada Granta 2021 has become more modern
The Granta update is immediately noticeable when viewed from the front, but from other angles and in the interior, the results of the work done are not so obvious. There are many differences, although everything was done with little blood. For example, they didn’t spend money on a new dashboard - they took it from the discontinued Kalina with minimal modifications.
VAZ has modernized the gearbox and parking brake levers. The latter, gleaming with bare metal, needed this especially urgently.
The instrument cluster has been updated to match the latest Lada innovations. Granta now has radial digitization and orange accents. The old-fashioned display with a green background has given way to stylish black and white. The interior lighting is LED, and the lampshade is combined with an emergency call button. They didn’t even forget about the seat upholstery - it now has a different pattern. It seems like a trifle, but against its background the pre-restyling Grant seems like an alien from the distant past.

The new Lada Granta Universal is a restyling of the familiar Lada Kalina with minimal changes in the interior and equipment. The engines are the same, only the five-speed manual and robot have been slightly retuned. The main innovation is the shape of the front bumper in the new X-style of the brand.

Lada Granda 2018-2019 has acquired a new front bumper with chrome X-inserts on the front bumper with an expanded air intake. There are minimal changes in the interior architecture of the updated Granta. The backlighting of the buttons turned from green to white, the rectangular ventilation deflectors in the center acquired an X-shaped edging, and the instrument panel was designed in the style of Vesta - the digitization was made radial, and the scales acquired orange rims.

Engines and Transmission
The engines and gearboxes remained the same, but for the manual and AMT robotic transmission, the gear ratio of the main pair was increased from 3.7:1 to 3.9:1, which made it possible to slightly reduce the acceleration time to hundreds. The robot has acquired a “crawling” mode for convenience in traffic jams (when you release the brake pedal in Drive mode, the car itself begins to quietly roll forward), as well as a “Sport” button, which activates faster switching.

Granta always had everything in order when it came to practicality. Crossover ground clearance, low maintenance costs, a good range of available options - the car retained all these virtues after the update.
A useful addition was the seal along the leading edge of the hood. It is designed to reduce the amount of dirt falling from the road onto the units. Looking at the editorial Grant with a mileage of over 100,000 km, I confidently say: modernization is necessary!
Finally, electric trunk opening buttons have begun to be introduced in Togliatti! Granta didn't have her for seven years.
And replacing the dashboard gave the driver an additional glove compartment. A small box with a lid is located centrally under the windshield. The old car had an open niche there. Things from it tried to “escape” at turns, and it was dangerous to keep something more or less valuable in front of everyone.

Lada Granta 2019 configuration
Having absorbed the Kalina family, the Lada Granta began to be offered in four body types (sedan, hatchback, liftback, station wagon). A fifth one will appear soon - a pseudo-crossover based on a station wagon. No one else in the class has such an assortment.
The liftback is the most harmonious in appearance and, perhaps, the most practical body type from the Granta range. A station wagon would be preferable for those who like to load things to capacity, if not for the shortened rear, which deprived the car of part of the useful internal volume.
Power units are also for every taste. There is a tax-friendly 87-horsepower eight-valve engine that drives the car surprisingly briskly. There is a choice of two automated gearboxes: a VAZ robot with one clutch (already in version 2.0) or a classic Jatco automatic.
There is an identical set of 14 trim levels for each body type. And by the way, after restyling, two equipment levels are available for the machine, Comfot and Luxe.
Reliability of Lada Granta
Cars produced by AvtoVAZ are generally considered reliable, but they do not have the highest build quality. Some car owners come across “construction cars” that constantly need to be completed and defects eliminated.
Basically, all the breakdowns are not too major, but they cause a lot of trouble.
The most global problem with VAZ cars, including the Lada Granta, is loose bolts and nuts, low reliability of electronics, poor metal processing, and not very high-quality materials.
What disadvantages do owners note when assembling the car:
- the door seals are leaky; in heavy rain, water often gets into the interior through them;
- Interior plastic creaks and is easily scratched;
- Any fastener can unscrew - bolts of door hinges, sun visor, fastening the plastic steering column cover, etc.;
- In some places the paint on the body swells and “saffron milk caps” appear.
But many of the shortcomings are compensated for by the low price of this model; moreover, the main units, such as the engine and gearbox, break down infrequently, and there are almost no complaints about the reliability of the chassis.
Premature failure of the starter, generator or clutch is noted, but such breakdowns do not occur on all cars, and they are not typical.
Failure with headlights on Lada Granta 2021
Vesta-style headlights look beautiful, no doubt about it. However, they use lamps with an H19 base. This is exotic even in Moscow, but the lion's share of Grant is distributed throughout the provinces. Where can the owner look for these lamps? In addition, they are noticeably more expensive than the H4, which is sold on every corner and is very familiar to everyone.
In addition to the mistake with the type of lamps, the headlights of the updated Granta have another drawback. They do not shine in the best way, but this is active safety!
Owners of the updated Grant can be consoled by the fact that similarly shaped handles are installed on BMWs of the latest generations - from the relatively affordable “three rubles” to the flagship “X-Seven”.
