Someone has some play between parts 17 and 20; apparently the metal bushing in the center (part 18) is in the way. It does not allow the metal discs (part 16) to be properly pressed against the plastic spacers (17) and the lever itself (20). Theoretically, if you sharpen it, there should be no more problems.

Why do you need a gearbox slide?

Attention ! The Kalinovskaya yoke cardan is slightly longer than the original one. That is why it is impossible to install it in stock form. The part needs to be shortened. To do this, you need to prepare a grinder, a clamp, tape and a grinding tool. You should also dismantle the original cardan in advance.

Step-by-step instructions on how to shorten the Kalinovsky cardan:

  1. Measurement of the original part and the Kalinovskaya one (here you need to wrap tape around the tip of the cardan for cutting);
  2. Shortening (for convenience, you should insert the cardan into the clamp; then you need to cut off the excess part of the part with a grinder);
  3. Grinding (the finished shortened Kalinovsky cardan should be sanded with a special machine; this is necessary for ease of installation).

Step-by-step instructions on how to install the driveshaft from the Kalina on a VAZ 2114:

  1. Checking the size (you need to insert the cardan into the appropriate hole; at this stage, the correctness of the shortening is checked; if the part fits in well, then everything is done correctly);

  2. Placement of the wing boot;

  3. Installation of a new part (here you need to place the driveshaft from the viburnum in place of the original one and secure it with a key);

  4. Pulling the boot (the previously installed boot must be pulled onto the cardan).

Advice! When replacing parts, pay attention to the oil seal. It is best to replace it with a new one.

Preparing to adjust the rocker

On an old car, it is better to lubricate the linkage mounting assembly with a penetrating compound in advance.

Before starting adjustment work, you need to prepare the place and carry out the following preparatory measures:

  1. The car needs to be parked in a pit.
  2. The handbrake must be tightened all the way.
  3. It is mandatory to install wheel chocks.

For a faster and better adjustment process, it is better to perform all work with an assistant. The process itself can occur in several ways.

First adjustment method

To adjust, you need to loosen the clamp connecting the rocker drive to the cardan.

This method is the simplest. In this case, the gearbox linkage is adjusted according to the reverse speed . First of all, you need to loosen the clamp, after which the reverse gear is engaged. Then you need to position the lever in the position you need. After this, the clamp is tightened and the operation of the entire mechanism is checked.

If you don't succeed the first time, you need to listen for knocks and crackles when switching . They must either decrease or increase. In accordance with this, you need to position the lever in the desired direction. If all manipulations do not lead to the desired effect, you need to resort to another adjustment method.

Second adjustment method

The gear shift lever should rest against the locking plate (in the photo it is made of light plastic).

This method is used if the first one did not lead to the desired results. When using it, you can more clearly position the gearshift lever. This method is as follows:

  1. The gearshift lever switches to first speed.
  2. The backstage clamp is completely loosened.
  3. Next, you need to turn the drive of the rocker itself counterclockwise until the lever rests against the reverse speed stop.
  4. The backstage clamp is tightened.

Tighten the clamp fastening nut, eliminating the shift of the rod during operation.

It happens that some VAZ-2110 cars do not have a plastic limiter retainer, so the adjustment in this case is carried out not in first gear, but in neutral.

Third adjustment method

This method is quite complicated , as it involves calculating the depth of the gearbox linkage to the cardan. Due to this, the position of the lever in the neutral position can be accurately calculated and adjusted. It happens that if the calculation is not accurate enough, all manipulations only lead to the appearance of rattling when changing gears.

If adjustment by any of the above methods does not lead to the desired results, several options are possible to solve the problem:

How to replace the universal joint on a VAZ 2110-VAZ 2112?

It is possible to remove this hinge only on an overpass, inspection hole, or if you raise the car, because this hinge is located under the bottom and you will need to crawl under it to unscrew both bolts that secure it!

1) At the beginning, as you already understood, you will need to crawl under the car, after that, look for the boot there (Indicated by the arrow) and the hinge itself, which is located under this boot, so after that, take two keys in your hands and with one holding the bolt from turning, loosen slightly tighten the nut of this bolt as shown in the figure, and after the clamp nut is loosened, grab the rod with your hand and remove it from the hinge as shown in the small figure.

Before you start unscrewing the nut of the tie rod bolt, drag the boot towards the box so that it does not interfere, and after you disconnect the link, drag the boot towards it and thereby completely remove it from the car!

2) Now you will need to unscrew another bolt that secures the hinge in the front part to the gear selector rod, so after this bolt is unscrewed, you can pull the hinge and calmly remove it from the place where it is installed.

When you install the new joint, you will need to get these bolts into the hole in the gear selector rod, so remember approximately where this bolt is located after installing the new joint in the same place and screw it in so that it fits into the hole in the gear selector rod!

Installing a new hinge is carried out in the reverse order of removal, but only when you install the hinge will the linkage necessarily need to be adjusted, otherwise the gears will not engage clearly and instead of, for example, first gear as mentioned earlier, the reverse gear may easily engage.     Although the short-throw rocker requires more effort to engage, it increases the smoothness and clarity of gear engagement. But, in principle, choosing which is better for him - short-stroke or full-time - is the right of every VAZ 2110 owner.

    Repair or replacement

    As for replacing the oil seal, the car needs to be driven into a pit or raised on a lift. Next, you should inspect the rubber boot. If it is not sealed or is torn, traces of oil will be visible.

    Then you should bend the boot, disconnect the cardan and thus gain access to the cuff. Now the cardan is removed from the lever, after which it is disconnected from the rocker. After removal, you can get to the oil seal and then use an awl or hook to remove the gearbox cuff.

    In fact, such repairs allow you to avoid oil leaks in the gearbox and improve the operation of the gear shift mechanism

    The fact is that even a serviceable, but incorrectly configured rocker will not work properly. By the way, on a VAZ 2110 it’s difficult to set up the rocker yourself. To make the process easier, it is better to immediately invite an assistant.
