At the presentation of the Lada Vesta model, which took place as part of the Moscow Motor Show, organized in, Sergey Stillavin and Rustam Vakhidov filmed a video of the car’s presentation.

In the video, they immediately noted that they arrived at the auto show on August 27, the press day when media representatives were invited there. However, even on this day, almost the entire parking lot was occupied, where exhibition workers left their cars.

They immediately went to the Lada Vesta stand, where they were just removing the awning from the car, after which the Lada Vesta was presented to journalists. The appeal stated that this model is one of the largest in class D, and also about its launch into series in 2015. They immediately noted the emergence of AvtoVAZ’s own style - features of the letter “X”, which are visible not only in the front end, but also on the side panels, especially the rear wings. Then they managed to get closer.

First, Stillavin and Vakhidov examined the profile of the model, once again noting the lines stamped in the sidewall, and also pointing out one point - the 30-centimeter podium on which the car stood slightly distorted the true picture of its perception. Moving to the rear, the journalists pointed to the new rear optics, in which Stillavin caught similarities with those on the new generation Nissan Qashqai.

In the front of Vesta, they again noted the X-shaped configuration of the front bumper in the radiator grille area. They also drew attention to the frankly “Asian” head optics of the car. Then we tried to look inside by lifting the camera and pointing it into the interior, before again pointing out the side features, as well as the 17-inch wheels installed on the concept. As for the interior, Stillavin and Vakhidov drew attention to the “Korean” design, very similar to that of the KIA Ceed.

  • light and rain sensors;
  • armrest for the driver's seat;
  • wheels (16-inch).

The engine is from today's usual economical series: volume 1.6 liters, power 106 hp. With.

If you wish, you can pay an additional 25 thousand rubles and get a robotic gearbox - a cross between an “automatic” and a manual gearbox, which is popular today (in fact, a manual gearbox that is controlled electronically and not directly by the driver).

You can also invest some money and expand the “luxury” offered by getting the XV Line kit, which includes such wonderful gadgets as a spoiler, exhaust tip, pedal covers, cruise control, rear view camera, touch screen and navigation. This option will cost 663 thousand rubles.

Lada Vesta Cross 2021 - configurations, prices and photos

Russian car enthusiasts will soon receive the 2021 Lada Vesta Cross off-road station wagon, which is perfect for local roads. X-face outside

From the outside, the car looks quite modern, like an adult. The body panels fit perfectly: the gaps are minimal and even. The general X-shaped style can be seen everywhere: in the side stampings, in the front part, and in the rear headlights. The turn signals are built into the mirrors. There are neat aerodynamic roof rails on the roof, and the antenna is made in the form of a fin.

The only thing I didn’t like was the huge gas tank filler cap, which, judging by the sound of opening, was made of tin.

Review of the new AvtoVAZ product from a famous video blogger

One of the popular video bloggers, Anton Vorotnikov, known as Avtoman, could not resist his own test drive of the Lada Vesta. The hero of the video review is a red sedan with a robotic gearbox. The first thing a car enthusiast notices is the appearance of the car. A completely new design migrated from the conceptual X-RAY and Vesta, presented back in 2014 at the Moscow exhibition. To everyone's surprise, the production samples retained their original appearance.

Advantages

The author of the video notes many innovations that previous domestic cars did not have:

  • silent opening and closing of doors;
  • comfortable seating position for the driver, good seat height and tilt adjustment;
  • ergonomic location of radio and climate control controls in the cabin;
  • stylish design of the center console;
  • sufficient space between rows of seats;
  • good handling;
  • energy-intensive suspension.

Flaws

During the autotest, Anton notes some disadvantages of the AvtoVAZ model:

  • significant gaps between body parts;
  • insufficient information content of the instrument panel;
  • interior trim with cheap plastic;
  • poor-quality assembly of interior parts: play in door handles and panels, presence of burrs on plastic parts;
  • there is no fixation of the central armrest;
  • poor sound insulation;
  • drum brakes at the rear;
  • delayed gear shifting on the “robot”.

Silence, like in a library

The first impression was very pleasant. What will it be like on the go? I start it up and am amazed - the engine is barely audible. I must say that Vesta’s sound insulation is generally very good (hello, Koreans!). Here, even the protection of the rear arches is piled, so the noise from the wheels and the road is almost inaudible.

It is better not to turn on the audio system only when listening to audiobooks. The sound quality leaves much to be desired, as does the quality of the touch display. The graphics are unclear, the response to clicks is slow, and you have to wait to turn on the camera...

Appearance

After restyling, the exterior did not undergo any changes. The car is still distinguished by its X-shaped stampings.

At the front there is a neat and compact radiator grille. Looking at the car from the side, you can see how the roof line smoothly transitions to the rear pillars and trunk.

shows that the taillights also haven't received an updated design, but they definitely look stylish.

The car body is resistant to corrosion and rust. Sedans are galvanized up to the roof, while station wagons are completely galvanized.

Sedan capabilities

After a test drive of the car was carried out in the city and on the highway, it was decided to drive on a country road. And due to the almost 18 cm of ground clearance, we were able to easily drive in those places where the Rio and Solaris began to touch the ground with their bottoms. Vesta, practically without slowing down, drove along a very deep rut, while the SUV drivers in front were in bewilderment when the domestic Lada Vesta blinked its headlights behind them. Carrying out such a very extreme test drive for the sedan, we understood that there was a high probability that a tow would be needed, but the car continued to calmly cope with the assigned tasks.


Moving along the highway, the car holds well at high speeds, so before even a strong climb, you can not be afraid to accelerate and go into third gear. By the way, on the new Lada, we had to feel the traction control system only once, when we missed a necessary turn. Therefore, the pre-prepared shovel and the accompanying SUV for towing never had to be used.

When we returned to the city, all test drive participants came to a unanimous opinion about the car. It really is worth the price. By the way, we recommend that off-road enthusiasts take care in advance about installing good crankcase protection. The factory installed option does not have the required level of protection and therefore stones can damage the engine.

Behind the wheel


Suspension

:

  • The regular Vesta SW station wagon has a rear suspension exactly like a sedan, but the characteristics of the springs and shock absorbers have been slightly revised for higher loads.
  • Cross has different springs: thanks to them, the ground clearance is increased from 178 to 203 mm.
  • This is the first production Lada with suspension like Subaru!
  • There was not even a hint of a breakdown on any of the asphalt waves and holes that abound on the narrow mountain road to Solohaul (a famous rally stop!).

Engine and transmission

:

  • The combination of a 122-horsepower engine and a manual transmission is fire! There is always enough engine, although there are three passengers in the car besides me and some luggage.
  • The clutch does not require filigree footwork: you just release the pedal and go.
  • Only occasionally did a slight itch irritate me, but this, as the engineers assured me, was a consequence of the fact that the engine calibration had not yet been completed.

Control

:

  • The strength of the Cross is also that it handles perfectly - better than a sedan.
  • ESC is triggered later than on a sedan, allowing you to drive a little more actively and slide longer without the intervention of an electronic guard (due to the fact that ESC is triggered, among other things, by the steering angle sensor + low-profile tires).
  • Low-profile tires, with a stiffer sidewall, so when turning the steering wheel you deflect at smaller angles - the car changes course more readily and turns more actively into turns than on higher and softer tires.
  • Active drivers will like it - you can afford a little more than usual. Living machine!

Brakes

:

  • For ESP operation, disc brakes are preferable: they are faster, especially on rough roads.

Body

:

  • The torsional rigidity of the body (on an empty car) is sufficient. The rear right wheel is a couple of millimeters off the ground, but all the doors, including the trunk, open easily.

It is beautiful, but not cheap, handles well, but accelerates poorly, practical, but voracious.

Suspension

:

  • The suspension of the Lada Vesta SW and Lada Vesta SW Cross is different. On the cross version it is more “asphalt”.
  • The suspension is denser, reactions are faster and more accurate, with it Vesta Cross rolls less and sways less.
  • But it emphasizes waves and irregularities more strongly.

Control

:

  • The elevated Cross controls more accurately and tastes better.
  • The cross costs 830 thousand, but drives like a million. Reactions are fast and accurate, rolls are almost not felt.

Clearance

:

  • Ground clearance is 203 mm - Crete never dreamed of this, and Kaptur is only one millimeter higher, but from experience there is more confidence in the Lada's passport clearance.

Noise insulation

:

  • Unexpectedly good sound insulation (in a station wagon it is almost quieter than in a sedan).
  • The roar of the engine is insipid, the turn signals click poorly, the horn snarls in the voice of a cold teenager.

Body:

  • The rigidity of the station wagon body compared to the sedan dropped by only 100 Nm/deg and amounts to 17900-18900 Nm/deg. To compensate for the lack of a rigid rear shelf, the design has several additional elements that strengthen the body.
  • We hung one wheel, all doors open and close without problems.

Fuel consumption

the Cross version in mountainous areas floated from 12 to 14 liters per 100 km.

Well, let's go!

Vesta almost didn’t notice the asphalt joints, but on the snow frozen in mounds it seemed a little harsh, however, no breakdowns were observed. The hard plastic began to rattle over bumps, although not as much as some competitors. It is better to press the brake smoothly and in advance; if you press the pedal a little harder, ABS will intervene, which is sometimes out of place, and the braking distance increases by a couple of meters.

I drive out onto a cleared road and am surprised at how composed the car behaves at high speed. In terms of handling, Vesta was reminiscent of younger VAGs. She reacted sharply to steering movements and only returned to zero reluctantly.

What it really lacked was dynamics. When overtaking, I wanted to go out and push. Perhaps the 1.8 drives better, but the 1.6 is definitely not for the highway, and the gearbox is tuned for the city. The gears are short, most likely to save fuel. Therefore, already at 60 you can safely stick in the fifth. The car pulls calmly, but changing gears is not very convenient. The travel of the gearshift lever, as well as the clutch pedal, is long.

You can drive over large uneven surfaces without fear of tearing off the bumper. The ground clearance here feels like a regular SUV - 178 mm, which Vesta does not pretend to achieve at all. For this purpose there is a raised version of Cross. But this is the only way our car could cope with a gravel road or crossing a curb.
