The Russian car Lada Vesta appeared on the market back in 2015, then it was presented as a sedan with very good characteristics. Despite the fact that the car had a number of technical shortcomings, it almost immediately became one of the best-selling in the domestic space.

By the way, the shortcomings have been corrected. Then AVTOVAZ went further and released Vesta in a station wagon and its elevated version, which was given the name Cross. We will not touch the most advanced version of the car - we will talk about the Lada Vesta in the first, universal body.

Those who believe that this is the same car as the sedan are very mistaken: the specialists of the plant in Tolyatti worked not only on the appearance of their brainchild, but also made serious changes to the technical component.

It is worth noting that the Vesta series is a representative of the latest generation of VAZ cars made in X-design. Options and prices

This fall, updated prices for the Lada Vesta became known, which of course depend on the configuration of the car. Unlike the sedan, the car with a universal body is available in two main trim levels: Comfort and Luxe. Each set is divided into several more. They differ in engine and gearbox. The engines here are the same as on the sedan.

Comfort package has two airbags, heated front seats, a rear chamber and cruise control.

The advanced version of Comfort Image will add electric heating for the windshield, fog lights and 16mm alloy wheels.

The luxury version is much more interesting: there are twice as many pillows, the car is equipped with light sensors and rain sensors, and the luggage compartment has a double floor.

Luxe Multimedia package , as the name implies, adds an advanced multimedia system to the car, with a large touch screen and a rear view camera.

Having paid about 20 thousand more for the Luxe Prestige , the driver receives LED interior lighting, tinted rear windows and, most importantly, a heated rear sofa. In addition, the sofa now has a fold-out ergonomic armrest.

The top-end version of the station wagon costs about 750 thousand with a 1.6 engine and a little more than 800 thousand with a 1.8 engine.

The car is worth the money because, thanks to the efforts of the engineers, it drives well and is easy to control. It’s not for nothing that it, like Xray, was brought to mind. Balance and harmony were noticeable even in the sedan.

The release of the station wagon showed that the manufacturer had improved the car, making it not just expensive (as for domestic cars), but also very competitive. Specifications

Now we come to the most interesting part - the technical component. Of course, as is the case with trim levels and options, the station wagon’s engines are identical to those of the sedan. These are two sixteen-valve power units with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters and a power of 106 and 122 hp. respectively.

The second option turned out to be quite dynamic, especially in combination with mechanics. By the way, both engines are equipped with two transmissions to choose from - classic mechanics and a robotic automatic.

Previously, West sedans were equipped with French mechanics, but then they decided to abandon them in favor of domestic development. The engines do not suffer from a lack of traction, which is sufficient throughout almost the entire rev range.

True, the 1.8-liter engine will still be more powerful. Otherwise, everything turned out soft and at the same time cheerful. There is only one unpleasant moment left - this is the gluttony of the engine, which AvtoVAZ could not moderate. The engine consumes on average 10 liters per 100 km.

AVTOVAZ did not reinvent the wheel and installed the same engines in the station wagon that were in the previous generation. These are modern Russian-made units. An MTOR with a volume of 1.6 is called a VAZ-21129.

This is a more advanced version of the obsolete VAZ-21127, which was good for everyone, except for one thing - it did not meet environmental standards.

If some 8-10 years ago no one paid attention to this, then recently this problem has become relevant. As a result, the engine was modified and stuffed into the new Vesta. There are no questions about the mechanism. It behaves quite decently on domestic roads.

Of course, when taking into account the weight of the car, sometimes there is a lack of power, but such a disadvantage is insignificant and this is not present in a more powerful engine.

It is worth noting one more point regarding the timing belt. If it breaks, the valves will quickly wear out. If you take care of this, this motor has a long service life and will last for many years.

Design

The Lada Vesta SV Cross in the photo, like its regular sedan version, is almost identical in design, with the exception, of course, of the rear. Otherwise, the body has similar lines, with an original and impressive structure. A smart and even sporty style, with consistent proportions, predominates.

The new Lada Vesta from 2019-2020 in both modifications is rather a demonstration by the company of its ideas, developments that it puts into practice. Well-thought-out ergonomics of the Lada Vesta SV in 2019-2020 in a new body, with originality, practicality and surprisingly dynamism.

Exterior

Lada Vesta first appeared in the photo back in 2014, when the premiere was presented. Since then, year after year, the company has made a certain number of changes to the car, introducing first in 2015 and then in 2021 the Lada Vesta Cross sedan and the Lada Vesta Cross station wagon, including with a characteristic off-road body kit.

The front part seems to be the brightest and most eye-catching, due to the embossed hood lid, sculpted bumper, fashionable optics, and radiator grille. But the main advantage of the “front” is the played out motifs of the letter “X”. Continuing the “X” theme, on the sidewalls of the Lada Vesta we find characteristic stampings with floating lines.

The well-shaped rear in both versions looks sporty and fit, adding sportiness and dynamism to the car's silhouette. Depending on the configuration of the Lada Vesta, for example, the Exclusive version receives additional chrome moldings, adding to the high cost of the car.

A photo of the new Lada Vesta SV Cross clearly shows how radically they decided to change the rear, in contrast to the sedan version. A huge overhanging spoiler, a beveled lid, and littered rear pillars are reminiscent of “English” motifs. The “tinted” pillar looks interesting and beautiful, adding airiness to the car. The new model Lada Vesta 2019-2020 from the photo represents, as already mentioned, a new style and direction in the Russian automotive industry.

And if we talk about Lada Vesta Sport, then the domestic manufacturer is seriously thinking about sports cars. Let's see what comes of this.

Interior

The Lada Vesta station wagon, based on the photo of the interior, is practically no different from its version with an off-road body kit, not to mention the sedan models. From the photo, Lada Vesta looks beautiful, dignified, pleasant and quite modern. Of course, there are questions in terms of finishing and materials, but we must not forget what price category the car is from. There will be no expensive plastics, real wood, metal, leather, in the end. Banal hard plastic, with an unpleasant-to-the-touch coating.

Lada Vesta Sport, like its less charged versions, receives a decent equipment package. Here we will see modern multimedia, air conditioning and even a multifunction steering wheel. Lada Vesta Exclusive in addition receives a full-fledged climate control system with a clear and well-thought-out interface. Moreover, all this is “put together” with good ergonomics, beautiful and stylish. The new Lada Vesta SV Cross only in the basic version can disappoint, because it is equipped only with a regular radio, without any bells and whistles.

The front seats, despite the photo, are quite comfortable; riders of any height and build will be able to fit, given the wide range of adjustments. The only sofa in the back is unsuccessful, although in size it is ready to accommodate three passengers. Discomfort is caused by a sharp collapse of the roof in both the SV and sedan versions. The luggage compartment pleases not only with its correct geometric shapes, but also with its huge volume by the standards of the segment.

For both modifications, the trunk reaches 480 liters, and taking into account the ability to fold the rear backrests, more than 800 liters.

Vehicle dimensions and luggage space

As befits a full-fledged station wagon, the dimensions of the Lada Vesta are rather large. At a quick glance, it seems that the car is very long. This is an optical illusion and not entirely true. Yes, the sizes are rather large, but not beyond the bounds of reason.

The length of the body is 4400 cm, by the way, the same as that of the sedan. The width of the car along the body is 1.764 m, and the height along the roof with roof rails is 1.512 m. Such indicators provide not only a solid appearance, but also a large amount of interior space. The car has a wide wheelbase of 2.635 m, which provides Vesta with excellent stability on the road.

In general, the car looks sporty, especially its Cross version, but that’s not what we’re talking about now. The “front” of the station wagon clearly shows the X-graphics familiar from X-Ray.

The radiator grille smoothly transitions into a trapezoidal air intake. All this forms an X-shaped pattern. Looks cool, especially in combination with classic headlights.

Well, AVTOVAZ engineers couldn’t help but leave at least something from their cars of yesteryear. Even though the station wagon has a lower ground clearance than the Cross, this does not deprive the car of its “height” at all: it looks tall.

I would like to complete this review with feedback from Lada Vesta station wagon owners. Due to the fact that the car has only recently been on the market, there are not many reviews, but they exist. Many owners note the stylish appearance of the car. Moreover, both the station wagon and the Cross version. Being inside the cabin is quite comfortable, even more comfortable than in a sedan.

Inside the cabin, there are also disadvantages. For example, weak LED lighting or poor quality finishing materials. Despite this, drivers note a fairly convenient arrangement of all elements and increased efficiency of the cabin. Many are pleased with the thoughtful access to the trunk and its volume. The reviews about the car are mostly positive, except for minor shortcomings about the weak engine in the version with the 1.6 engine and some interior flaws.

Otherwise, the new car mostly pleases its owners and does not require modifications, like the sedan did in its time.

It’s good that a white car with a black roof is not chosen by all driving enthusiasts, as it can create a continuous light stream on the road. This is not entirely correct. Dark objects should serve as a kind of warning and keep the car enthusiast’s attention in constant suspense. If you lose your vigilance, you can lose your life.

This color, no matter how banal it may be, is the most popular. Many people simply have no taste. Such a car absolutely does not bring anything new to the landscape, being something of a blank slate. I've always liked more intriguing colors.

The new model Lada Vesta station wagon 2018 or Lada Vesta SW has been awaited for a long time, but the car was released only in the fall of 2021. Potential buyers were concerned that prices would be quite high. But when comparing similar configurations, it turned out that a more practical body is not much more expensive than the Vesta sedan. Immediately with the regular station wagon, its “off-road” version Vesta SW Cross appeared at dealers.

Vesta SV in 2021 is offered in 16 different trim levels. Under the hood a 1.6 liter (106 hp) petrol engine or a more powerful 1.8 liter 122 hp unit can be installed. As a transmission, the front-wheel drive station wagon can boast a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT robotic automatic transmission, created on the basis of the same mechanics.
