Restyling Lada Priora 2013
The 2013 restyling consisted of some changes regarding the appearance, some equipment, interior and engine. Among such changes in Prior we will name:
- A slightly modified exterior geometry, which, however, makes no sense to describe, since visually Priora before and after restyling remained almost indistinguishable in appearance;
- Replacing the radiator grille with an elongated “honeycomb”, slightly tilting the car into the now fashionable “organic” style, characterized by biological forms;
- Improved external lighting technology, thanks to which the car’s dimensions have become clearer in the dark. In particular, the area of the reflectors has been increased, LED sections for side lights and brake lights have been added, which are both brighter and more responsive when switched on;
- A dashboard that is implemented differently: instead of four “dials,” the sensor arrows were arranged in two, without compromising functionality. Purely aesthetically it looks better, but from an ergonomic point of view, a lot depends on habit;
- An increased number of pictograms flashing on the dashboard, making it easier to figure out which lighting equipment is faulty;
- An added niche in the center of the dashboard, in which the on-board computer is placed;
- Extended front seat slides, allowing tall drivers and front passengers to adjust their seat positions more flexibly;
- A box that is more spacious in depth to the right of the driver;
- A more attractive three-spoke steering wheel with an airbag under a triangular cover;
- In the “luxury” configuration – leather upholstery based on a combination of auto fabric and eco-leather;
- New door card design.
Also, since 2013, Priors have been produced in a different engine configuration, from which the 80-horsepower engine was removed, but a new 106 l/s engine was added, which, like everyone else, reaches speeds of up to 183 km/h and reduces fuel consumption to 6. 8 – 6.9 liters per hundred km. This engine is equipped with the “luxury” configurations of the Priora. Of course, such a reduction in fuel consumption is very attractive to the consumer. We can only hope that the developers will continue to work in this direction. In addition, the new engine fits well into Euro-3 and Euro-4 environmental standards, thanks to the closely located catalyst. Due to rapid heating, the catalysis of toxic substances occurs more vigorously, as a result of which a lower concentration of them enters the atmosphere.
The restyled Prior also has a drawback (compared to previous editions of this car): the carpet in the trunk is thinner than its predecessors, which is why the noise level while driving is higher. Motorists are advised to take care of additional sound insulation in the trunk. In addition, the curb weight of the car has increased (to 1185 kg), which is by as much as 100 kg. reduced its cargo capabilities, since the maximum weight remained the same - 1593 kg. for a station wagon, and 1578 kg. for other body variations.

But this does not mean at all that it is too much inferior to the “luxury” and “standard” trim levels. Of course, there are significant differences, but Lada Priora retains its face in any form.
Italian designers from the Carcerano studio worked on the external appearance of the Priora together with Russian manufacturers. Thanks to this, the Lada Priora standard looks quite attractive and has a fabric interior, which is practical and inexpensive. This car model also has bumpers painted in body color and stamped rims.
In addition, in the Lada Priora car, the standard equipment means the presence of a driver’s airbag, ABS, tilt steering and front electric windows.
The standard package includes a 1.6-liter engine with a power of 98 horsepower. In the “luxury” configuration there is already a little more horsepower - 106. Priora is capable of reaching speeds of up to a maximum of 183 km/h. If desired, the car owner can install an additional audio system, air conditioning and heated windshield, for an additional fee, of course.
The standard equipment of the Lada Priora may seem meager to some, but in comparison with the VAZ 2110 model that preceded the appearance of the Priora, changes are obvious. Fans of this car change the struts, install widened rims and lower the “belly” in such a way that, in combination with a body kit, makes the Priora more sporty and even somewhat formidable. The buyer has a choice of hatchback, sedan and station wagon.
The car behaves well on the roads, a fairly strong suspension allows you to easily pass through potholes and speed bumps, although it is better not to drive it off-road, like any other car that is valued and taken care of.

Based on the configuration, sedans before the 2013 restyling are equipped with the following engines:

- 16-valve engine with 89 hp. reaches speeds of up to 176 km/h, consuming 7.3 l/100 km. paths in a mixed cycle. As you can see, in terms of its characteristics, this engine is not much different from its “younger brother,” although it consumes a little less gasoline.
- 16-valve 98-horsepower engine: maximum speed 183 km/h, AI-95 consumption in the combined cycle – 7.2 l/100 km.
Engine Lada Priora 2008, hatchback, 1st generation
5-door hatchbacks have been produced since 2008. Depending on the configuration, they are equipped with:
- 80-horsepower 8-valve engine, delivering the same speed and fuel consumption characteristics as in the case of a sedan equipped with the same engine;
- 16-valve engine with 89 hp, which produces the same speed for a hatchback and consumes the same amount of gasoline as a sedan with the same engine;
- A 98-horsepower 16-valve engine, thanks to which the hatchback completely matches the speed and consumption characteristics of a sedan with the same power plant.
Engine Lada Priora 2008, station wagon, 1st generation
With a station wagon everything is simpler. From the very beginning of production, it had only one, but the most powerful engine at that time, producing 98 l/s, which accelerated the car to 183 km/h and consumed 7.2 liters of gasoline per 100 km. paths in a mixed cycle. Thus, despite the large cargo capacity of the station wagon, its rated speed remains the same as that of other Priors in a different body version, but with the same engine, since the curb weight is the same for all modifications. Probably, when fully loaded, the station wagon will show slightly lower speed or higher fuel consumption characteristics.
Engine Lada Priora 2010, coupe, 1st generation
Since 2010, Priora has received another modification - a three-door coupe-hatchback. Everything with him is also quite simple, because... It is equipped with a 98-horsepower 16-valve engine, giving a top speed of 183 km/h, consuming 7.4 liters of gasoline per 100 km in the combined cycle, i.e. slightly more than all other body modifications. As you can see, the station wagon and coupe do not have such a wide engine variation as the 5-door hatchback and sedan, since cars of such a body are not designed for wide sale, but for specific needs: sports and motor tourism. By the way, the creators of Priora had the idea to launch a convertible into series, but reasonably considering that it would not find its buyer, they abandoned this idea.

That is why in the AvtoVAZ model range it was decided to leave the modernized ultra-budget version of the model, the price of which, equal to 389,000 rubles, will suit the majority of potential buyers. For this money the owner will receive the initial Standard package
(lowcost), which implies the presence of front electric windows, an on-board computer, an adjustable steering column with electric power, a cabin air filter, a driver's airbag and an anti-lock brake system. In addition, the price of the ultra budget version of the Lada Priora lowcost will include: exterior door handles in body color, light window tinting, audio preparation and daytime running lights.
The configurations and prices of the following versions imply the presence in the Lada Priora exclusively of a 16-valve 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 106 horsepower. While the technical characteristics of the ultra-budget low-cost option include an 8-valve engine of the same volume with a power of 87 horsepower. The equipment that is one step higher is called Norma
, in which the price of the model is 437,700 rubles. The Norma version is additionally equipped with: an alarm system with an immobilizer, electric heated exterior mirrors, steel engine protection, and height-adjustable front seat belts. Plus, the front seats get an armrest with a box, and the rear folding seats get an armrest with access to the trunk and headrests.
The flagship Lada Priora, priced at 464 thousand rubles, is nothing more than the Norma package with an additional package designated 057 (factory equipment code 7). The options package additionally includes: climate control, heated front seats, as well as chrome decorative trims on the hood and trunk lid. All Prioras of the 2021 model year in the Norma configuration, regardless of the presence of an additional equipment package, can be recognized externally by their 14-inch steel wheels with protective caps. General characteristics
Initially, the car was equipped with an 8-valve engine from the VAZ 2114, about which car enthusiasts in practice know all the characteristics, in particular, what kind of service life it has in different modes. Therefore, the first “Priors” did not receive rave reviews from customers.
Subsequently, the car was equipped with its own 16-valve unit modification 21126 with a displacement of 1.6 liters and a power of 98 horsepower, which made the VAZ 2170 truly competitive. Dynamic performance has been improved, emissions into the environment and fuel consumption have been reduced. Relatively recently, an updated version of the 21127 engine with a power of 106 hp appeared. which has been installed on Priora since 2013. Priora will have to live for another two years until a new model takes its place. Of course, the current car needs a body with a modified power structure, a modernized suspension, and much more. But this will result in serious costs that are unlikely to be recovered in such a short time. Therefore, the appearance was corrected with light makeup, without affecting the hardware at all. And in general, the amount of improvements is small, and most of them are hidden from view.
Let's start with the main units. Simultaneously with the release of cars for the 2014 model year (they will appear in the fall), a 106-horsepower 16-valve VAZ-21127 engine with variable intake geometry will become available ( ZR, 2013, No. 4 ). This engine is planned to be installed on cars in the “Lux” configuration. I appreciated its merits during a test drive of the new Lada-Kalina ( ZR, 2013, No. 7 ).
Having moved under the hood of the Priora, the engine did not bring any revelations. Acceleration dynamics and consumption are the same as with the previous 98-horsepower unit, but the elasticity has improved. Moreover, for the time being, both the old and the new sixteen-valve valves will be installed on the Priora. The difference in price between the two engines is promised to be purely symbolic - about 3,000 rubles. Strange marketing ploy. Unless a less powerful unit will allow you to save not only on purchase, but also in operation - on road tax.
Now about the gearbox. The unit with the VAZ-2112 index still works here, which is not pleasing with the clarity of switching. The upgraded VAZ-2180 transmission with cable drive will appear only in the first quarter of next year. In fact, this is the same box that is installed on “Kalina” and “Grant” (index 2181), only designed for more powerful engines. But by the middle of the year it will be in time... no, not an “automatic”, but a robotic gearbox! It is built on the basis of the same “mechanics” 2180. Electromechanical actuators were ordered from the world famous company ZF, and long-time partners from . The body will be slightly modified to accommodate the installation of new boxes.
The Togliatti team does not promise any other noteworthy innovations in the Priora family, but, of course, there are some improvements. Sound insulation has been improved, daytime running lights have appeared, the list of options has been expanded with a directional stabilization system, and the rear seat has become more comfortable. Next year they will introduce new compression buffers in the rear suspension. Thanks to them, it will become quieter and more comfortable, and the ride will improve. At first, only “Priors” with a stabilization system will be equipped with a short rack, and from 2014 all modifications will receive it.
The factory workers promise that the basic equipment will rise in price by no more than 10,000 rubles. The most equipped “Priors” with a pre-heater will still cross the psychological barrier of half a million. Although, with the current price level for cars in general and competing models in particular, such a price tag is unlikely to scare off buyers.

The 16-valve Priora at our disposal did not show any special deviations from the paper, therefore, in our opinion, we can believe the factory numbers for its 8-valve brother.
