VAZ 2109 carburetor cooling fan does not work

go ahead and call the whole chain from Carlson to the wires under the steering wheel

The first thing you need to try is to unhook the sensor on the radiator. If it doesn’t work, then one wire goes to ground under the right headlight, the other goes to the mounting block on the Ш6-9contact connector general diagram www.lada72.tk/scheme/29-s…orudovaniya- vaz-2108.html diagram of the mounting block www.lada72.tk/scheme/30-s…08-novogo-obrazca-.html. And it comes to K9 - the relay for switching on the electric motor of the engine cooling system fan. From the diagrams you read, you have a closed the fan sensor to the housing, it is possible that the thermistor in the sensor itself is broken, which rarely happens, or the contacts on the K9 relay are stuck.

this trouble... the same situation. whatever he did. I changed the fuses, changed the sensor... in short, I changed everything except the fan)) in the end the block jammed and connected forced activation via a button. minus, plus and into the salon. I put the wires right under the fan terminals. so this bitch started turning on by itself at 95...)) the button is no longer needed... it turns out there was a bad contact on the fan itself...

Your problem is that the permanent minus of the Ш6-9 contact connector, the wire to the sensor, went to the relay of contact 86 - turning on the relay itself. Most likely, this wire was sitting on the case. The fan has nothing to do with it, since it itself sits minus on the case, but is a plus connection with heated rear window, steering switch, hazard warning button.

Everything was fine with the installer, he opened everything cleanly and dryly, it’s new, there’s still a whole gasket, and I cover it with a piece of rubber on top

And I didn’t even write to you that it’s not in order, you read again what’s written, this is the whole connection of your fan, I couldn’t explain it further to you. So that you don’t have to worry about uncoupling the Ш6 connector, the 9-pin fan will stop turning (disconnecting the relay), and this wire goes to the sensor itself, so then jump from pin 5 to the sensor, what’s not clear?

Why the fan does not work - VAZ 2109

Two fans are installed on the VAZ-2109 car . The first, more powerful, is installed in the engine cooling in order to increase air flow through the radiator core. The second fan is installed in front of the heater radiator (“stove”) , its task is to pump heated or unheated air inside the car. Both fans are driven by DC motors.

It is necessary to start looking for the cause of malfunctions from motor activation sensor . To do this, open the hood and disconnect the terminal from the sensor. To further check the sensor, you will need a piece of wire, with which you need to short-circuit the two wires suitable for the terminal. Wrap the jumper with electrical tape so that it does not touch the ground of the car. Turn on the ignition, and if everything else is correct, the fan will start working. Moreover, in this case it will work continuously as long as the ignition is on.

To do this, you will need two insulated wires to connect the fan motor terminals directly to the battery. If the fan starts working, make sure that the air flow goes under the hood of the car, and not vice versa. If the connection is incorrect, change the polarity of the wires connected to the battery. When troubleshooting, you can thus get to the repair site, and you can turn off the fan motor only by disconnecting the wires from the battery. In this case, the reason that the fan did not turn on would be either a faulty relay or a faulty wiring.

In order for the driver not to be left alone with such malfunctions, he needs to have in the trunk of his car a coil of car wires three meters long and a supply of fuses , which are located in the mounting block.

Checking the cooling system

  1. Open the VAZ radiator tap, as well as the car air damper, which controls the air flow.
  2. Turn on the electric motor that regulates the operation of the radiator at maximum power.
  3. Inside the VAZ car, turn on the emergency button, then press the clutch pedal with your foot and very carefully drive off the road, stopping the car on the side of the road.
  4. Leave the VAZ 21099 carburetor engine running for several minutes at normal idle speed with the radiator on.
  5. After turning off the engine, the coolant system heats up precisely in those places where it comes into close contact with hot parts, resulting in the formation of so-called vapor locks.

Keep in mind that an overheated engine will not be able to shut down immediately. But such work is quite harmful to the VAZ engine, so it needs to be completed regardless of the resistance of the car.

Checking all wire connections

Step-by-step instructions for checking the cooling system.

  1. First you need to open the hood of the car and inspect the entire space under it. Find a source of steam. Check whether there is enough coolant in the tank, whether all rubber hoses, the radiator and, of course, the thermostat are intact. Perhaps it is these parts and systems that need to be replaced.
  2. Look under the foot mats to see if there is any liquid there. There must be a good reason why the car engine is not cooling.
  3. If fluid is not found, you need to see if the sensors that start the radiator motor are working. To do this, you need to remove two wires from the sensor mounts located inside the radiator and connect them. After this, turn the ignition key on the car. If, after connecting these wires, the cooling fan begins to spin, it means that the fluid level in the cooling system must be brought to the desired level.
  4. The cooling fan itself must be running constantly. You need to check the sensors in the radiator. At the first opportunity, it is worth replacing these parts with new ones, as well as replacing the pipes.
  5. If the cooling system fan does not work when the wires are shorted, the cause may be a blown fuse or a broken fan relay. Another possibility is a burnt-out cooling system motor. In this case, it is necessary to replace all faulty parts.
  6. After replacing failed elements, a control check should be carried out. To do this, you need to short-circuit a pair of wires that are connected to the car cooling fan switch and turn the ignition key. If the fan motor can turn on, the problem has been resolved.
  7. If the cooling fan does not turn on, you need to check it by supplying power to the electric motor from the battery.
  8. The engine of a VAZ 21099 carburetor can overheat even if the thermostat, which regulates the passage of liquid in the cooling system past the radiator or through it, has failed. In order to understand whether this is so, you should check the temperature of the hoses connecting the engine and radiator. If the bottom hose is cold, the thermostat is faulty.

Connecting a VAZ 21099 fan

Failure of the cooling system can have various causes, since the electrical circuit for turning on the VAZ 21099 cooling fan includes:

  1. Mounting block that contains the cooling system relay.
  2. Coolant temperature sensor. It is located to the right of the cooling radiator. This sensor automatically closes the circuit when the coolant temperature approaches 99 degrees.
  3. The fan motor itself.
  4. The problem may also be with the wiring.

Causes of fan malfunction

There are times when the radiator cooling fan runs continuously. This is also wrong. What to do in this case? What is the cause of the malfunction?

There may be a broken circuit in the temperature sensor. This will be indicated by a constantly lit sensor light. In this case, you simply need to replace the temperature sensor or the injection system unit. The relay may need to be replaced. Also, the contacts on the radiator thermal switch that triggers the relay may not open. To fix the problem, you will need to replace the thermal switch.

To find out the cause of the fan malfunction, you will need to remove it.

  1. Disconnect the fan block and harness by disconnecting the wires.
  2. Disconnect the motor wire by unscrewing the left nut. If necessary, use suitable keys.
  3. Under the hood, unscrew the two screws that secure the fan.
  4. Take out the casing.
  5. Remove the two fan mounting bolts.
  6. Remove five more bolts and the air intake grille.
  7. Lift the fan support and pull it towards you.
  8. Rotate the fan itself 90 degrees and remove it.

If there is any breakdown in the car, regardless of whether the fan has stopped working or something else, you should contact a specialized workshop. Experienced technicians will always find the cause of the problem, select suitable parts, sensors and carry out repairs. Of course, many car owners want to repair their vehicles themselves; this gives them a lot of pleasure and requires minimal costs. But in this case there is a risk of making a mistake with the selection of parts and the correct diagnosis. A car enthusiast can spend a lot of effort and time, but in the end do not get the desired result. To prevent this from happening, it is better to contact a specialist.

Fan connection diagram for VAZ 2109

From the figure it is clear how the circuit works: when the ignition is on, +12 Volts are supplied through fuses to the fan relay. As soon as the fan switching sensor closes the minus relay to ground, the executive contacts of the relay itself will operate and turn on the fan motor.

How to replace a fan

VAZ 2109 cooling fan

If replacing the impeller does not help, then you will have to take extreme measures - replace the cooling fan itself.

VAZ 2109 connecting a cooling fan

To do this you need to do the following:

  • Open the hood.
  • Remove the air filter housing.

Note: After this there will be enough space to carry out further work.

  • To easily remove the fan frame, unscrew 2 nuts and 2 bolts (with a 10mm wrench). The two nuts and the first bolt can be unscrewed without difficulty. However, you will have to tinker with the last bolt. The fact is that it is located in a not very convenient place. Access to it is hampered by the cross beam and the levers that are attached to it.

VAZ 2109 cooling fan relay

  • Protrude the impeller. Any convenient tool will do for this.

Note: the impeller itself is very fragile, so work with it should be carried out carefully.

  • Using a 13mm socket, unscrew the nut that secures the impeller.
  • Under no circumstances should you lose the key that is inserted into the motor shaft. Otherwise, you will have to make something similar to it yourself, and this is not so easy.
  • Replace impeller blades.

  • Insert it into place (if necessary, you can use a new impeller). The nut needs to be tightened as tightly as possible, because if the impeller dangles, it will soon break again.

  • Before you put the fan in place, you need to install two rubber washers. This will ensure that the vibration coming from the fan will be less noticeable on the body of the vases.
  • To easily put the mount back on the stud, you can make a small slot in the lower mount of the frame.

  • Insert the fan. Tighten all the nuts that secure it.

The cooling fan does not work, what is the reason for the VAZ 2109

The cooling fan does not work, what is the reason for the VAZ 2109

  1. the whole circuit needs to be checked
  2. We start from the fan fuse. then the fan itself. then its connector. then the thermostat. if everything previously listed is alive, then there is a “hemorrhoid” called the engine compartment wiring. if the car was left not far from garbage containers, then there is a chance of the wiring being gnawed (I fell into this myself. Today I just installed it, and tomorrow I was freaked out by the fact that rats devoured it)
  • The reason may be in each component. By the way, is the VAZ-2109 with a carburetor or an injector? This ALSO matters.
  • try changing the fan switch sensor or maybe the connector has just come loose
  • VAZ 2109 - injector or carburetor? if INJECTOR: -open the hood and see if the antifreeze (antifreeze) is in the expansion tank? Is the connector on the cooling fan rotten (there is a two-pin connector)? does it heat up and does the thermostat work? The fan switch sensor may also be faulty (the two-pin sensor is located on the thermostat), it is also worth checking the fuse for the fan. BUT FIRST OF ALL - WHEN TURN OFF. IGNITION REMOVE THE CONNECTOR FROM THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND TURN ON THE IGNITION, IF THE FAN TURNES ON IN A FEW SECONDS, THEN CHANGE THE ON SENSOR. THERE IS NO FAN, THEN TURN OFF THE IGNITION, PUT THE CONNECTOR IN PLACE AND LOOK EVERYTHING IN ORDER AS WRITTEN ABOVE. -IF 2109 CARBURETOR, THEN WHEN OFF. IGNITION REMOVE THE CONNECTOR FROM THE SENSOR ON. FAN (LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR - TWO-CONTACT SENSOR), JUMPER THE CONNECTOR AND LOOK: IF ON. FAN, THEN THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SENSOR, IF WE LOOK AT THE FUSE, THE CONNECTOR TO THE FAN AND THE FAN ITSELF (THE IMPELLER COULD BE JAMMED).
    In both cases, there must be antifreeze (antifreeze), a working fan (if it rotates easily by hand, then it’s normal), a connector on the fan that has not rotted, and a complete set of components. Good luck! If the carburetor, remove the wire ends from the switch on sensor on the radiator and bridge them with the ignition on, if the fan starts, change the sensor, if not, check the fuse, relay, electric motor, for injection engines only the fuse, relay and electric motor

VAZ 2109 cooling fan does not turn on

The cooling fan on the VAZ 2109 does not turn on. At the same time, the thermostat, sensor and the fan itself were changed. However, the problem has not been resolved, what could it be?

To find the cause, you should follow a simple path - eliminate possible causes one by one. The fan and sensor have been changed, so the reason could be either the relay or the fuse.

This is interesting: Front shock absorber support bearing

1. Check the fan relay and fuse F4 located under the hood

2. Make sure the sensor is working. Close its contacts, put it in boiling water and check the resistance.

3. Check the wiring going to the cooling fan, there may be a break somewhere

If after all the above procedures the fan still does not work, contact the diagnostic center

  • Finding the problem

    On injection engines the situation is different: the fan is controlled by a relay, but activation depends on the engine control unit.

    Often the problem may simply be the fan cooling relay. For injection VAZ 21099 it is located in the passenger compartment in the glove compartment. The cooling fan relay is located to the right of all the others.

    In carburetor engines, you need to find the fuse box. It is located under the hood on the left in front of the windshield. You need to find fuse mounting block 17.3722. The cooling fan relay is located in the second row. It is third from the right in this row. If the required fuse has burned out, it will be visible to the naked eye.

    For VAZ 21099 produced before 1998, the situation may be slightly different. The relay does not turn on when there is an electrical discharge between terminals “c” and “b” or when there is no contact at terminals “c” and “d”.

    The cause may also be a failure of the coolant temperature sensor. On carburetor engines it is located to the right of the radiator. On injection engines, the coolant sensor is located in the cylinder head exhaust pipe.

    Its functionality can be checked in this way:

    1. Place it in some container filled with coolant.
    2. Connect the sensor to the multimeter
    3. Next, increase the coolant temperature to a certain temperature and check the resistance indicated on the multimeter.

    At a coolant temperature of 100, the resistance that appears on the multimeter will be 177 Ohms.

    • at 80 – 332 Ohm;
    • at 60 – 667 Ohm;
    • at 40 – 1459 Ohm;
    • at 20 – 3520 Ohm;
    • at 0 – 9420 Ohm;
    • at -20 – 28680 Ohm;
    • at -40 – 100700 Ohm.

    If the sensor turns out to be faulty, then replacing it is not very difficult. To do this you need:

    1. Turn off the ignition.
    2. Drain the coolant from the expansion tank.
    3. Disconnect the wiring from the sensor.
    4. Using a 30mm wrench, carefully unscrew the sensor so as not to damage the socket.

    If the sensor and relay are working properly, inspect the wiring. It could have collapsed somewhere due to corrosion.

    It may turn out that the problem lies with the fan itself. You can fix it yourself by replacing the fan motor or impeller.

    Fan removal procedure:

    1. Disconnect power from the battery.
    2. Disconnect the wiring terminals. One of the pads is on the fan.
    3. Unscrew the connecting bolts securing the fan casing with a wrench.
    4. To unscrew the right nut located on top of the fan, you need a cap socket and an extension.
    5. Next you need to remove the pressure plate. To do this you need to unscrew the two left nuts.
    6. Remove the pressure plate yourself.
    7. Next, remove the fan and shroud together.

    After you have removed the fan, you are faced with a choice: install another one or repair the old one.
